The circulatory system is comprised of the cardiovascular and lymph systems; together the heart, blood, lymph nodes and network of vessels permits blood and lymph to transport nutrients to and from cells in the body and to help fight disease. Daily stress levels, exposure to poor outdoor air quality, improper diet, lifestyle choices and unhealthy weight gain greatly affect cardiovascular health. Delos provides fitness and nutrition programs, vital for cardiovascular health and addresses other environmental variables such as air and water quality, as well as vitamin D light therapy to manage and enhance the efficacy of these circulatory processes.

Endocrine Systems

The endocrine system is the system of glands that secrete the body's hormones. Hormones regulate important metabolic processes, including the way the body uses and stores nutrients from food. Healthy hormone expression also affect mood, sleep quality and timing, and immune function. The Delos program aims to educate and motivate inhabitants to engage in healthy eating, exercise and lifestyle choices through tailored nutrition and exercise programs as well as design elements that encourage daily passive exercise. The tailored programs are crucial, since our bodies differ in dietary and nutrient needs as well as exercise type and timing. The sum of these interventions aid in the achievement and management of a healthy endocrine system and all the metabolic benefits that go with it.

Digestive Systems

The gastrointestinal tract, consisting primarily of the stomach and intestine, is an extensive system responsible for nutrient absorption and assimilation. Because the gastrointestinal tract is home to the largest reservoir of human flora, it has an added vital role in immune defense. As important as these functions are, they are easily and very often compromised through poor eating habits, stress management, food and surface contamination. Research demonstrates that balanced nutrition, exercise, stress management and contamination control can positively impact and preserve gastrointestinal health. Delos facilitates the pursuit of these healthy practices through tailored nutrition and exercise support, opportunities for passive exercise, optimal food preparation and supplement storage designs, as well as biofeedback methods for stress reduction and relaxation.

Urinary System

The urinary system consists of the kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, and urethra. Besides filtering and eliminating wastes from the body, the urinary system also maintains the homeostasis of water, ions, pH, blood pressure, calcium and red blood cells.

Immune system

The network of cells, proteins, tissues, and organs responsible for the body’s defense system is affected by cumulative effect of toxin exposure, sleep deprivation, poor nutrients and stress. Dysfunction of the immune system can result in conditions such as chronic infections, arthritis, autoimmune diseases and cancer. The Delos program protects and enhances immune health through the use of specific material choices, advanced water and air filtration systems, advanced restorative sleep enhancement technology, medicinal herb gardens, and by facilitating regular exercise and providing optimal diet and nutrient intake.

Musculoskelatal system

The human musculoskeletal system provides form, stability, support, and movement. Although nutrition, exercise and stress greatly affect musculoskeletal function and health, many musculoskeletal illnesses and/or chronic problems are often simply the cumulative result of overuse or misuse of various body parts. Delos interiors are ergonomically designed to help prevent poor posture and thereby alleviate poor alignment and movement. Amenities such as posture supported flooring, reflexology paths, and hydrotherapy all enhance musculoskeletal health. The home also systems that encourage vitamin D production and nutrition support, as well as opportunities to engage in exercise, massage, acupressure, yoga and daily stretching thereby boosting musculoskeletal health.

Integumentary system

The integumentary system is an organ system consisting of the skin, hair, nails, and exocrine glands. The skin is only a few millimeters thick yet is by far the largest organ in the body. The average person’s skin weighs 10 pounds and has a surface area of almost 20 square feet. Skin forms the body’s outer covering and forms a barrier to protect the body from chemicals, disease, UV light, and physical damage. Hair and nails extend from the skin to reinforce the skin and protect it from environmental damage. The exocrine glands of the integumentary system produce sweat, oil, and wax to cool, protect, and moisturize the skin’s surface.

Nervous system

The nervous system includes the brain, spinal cord and neurons of the body. This systems is directly or indirectly responsible for controlling nearly every process in the body. The Delos program supports neurologic and cognitive function through the prevention of exposure to toxins in the air and water, proper diet and nutrition, stress management through biophilia as well as biofeedback therapy, light and sound therapy as well as advanced sleep therapy and optimal exercise programs.

Respiratory system

The respiratory system is comprised of airways, lungs, and respiratory muscles, which collectively perform gaseous exchange with the circulatory system. Respiratory health is predominantly affected by air quality. Delos design optimizes respiratory health through an advanced indoor air quality system, including air filters and purifiers that reduce allergenic particulates, bioaerosols, particulate matter as well as toxins and VOCs. This advanced indoor air system, combined with bacteria-resistant, non-toxic materials protect and help enhance respiratory health.

Health Domains

Sleep

Sleep health affects all aspects of human physiology and function, from digestion to memory and cognition, to mood, energy level, hydration and metabolism. The Delos project incorporates proven sleep enhancing features to facilitate healthy and restorative sleep and sleep patterns. Circadian lighting emulation, vitamin D light therapy, melatonin enhancing black out shades, as well as stress management have all been proven to enhance healthful sleep and are employed in the Delos project.

Weight

Maintaining a healthy weight is an important component of health. Those with a body mass index (BMI) above 25 are at an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and coronary artery disease. Proper nutrition, adequate exercise and stress management are the most important factors for maintaining a healthy weight and proportion.

Stress Management

Stress is a body's way of reacting to a challenge. The sympathetic nervous system reacts to a stressful event inciting a "flight or fight" response, marked by a release of stress hormones, namely cortisol, and adrenalin. A response to stressful stimuli is necessary for good health. However, when stress becomes chronic, it can have a profoundly negative impact on health. Exercise, a healthy diet, adequate rest, and stress management techniques are essential for maintaining healthy levels of stress.

Cognitive Performance

Environmental stressors like temperature, noise and pollution, sleep depravation, inadequate nutrition, and emotional stress and can negatively affect concentration, memory and other complex cognitive tasks.

Energy Levels

Sustaining optimal energy levels throughout the day can be a serious obstacle for many people. Many people experience a significant dip in energy, particularly in the afternoon, making work and other activities challenging. Energy fluctuations may be a sign of deeper health problems, including adrenal fatigue and insulin insensitivity. Adequate rest, healthy caffeine intake, proper nutrition, and stress management can help maintain energy levels throughout the day.

Development

Early life is a critical period for the body's growth and development. Children are the most susceptible to toxins, and nutrition and psychological conditions at a young age can drastically affect health status for the remainder of life.

Longevity

Environmental variables that impact aging, development and longevity are many and varied. A major cause of aging is the accumulation of cellular damage over time. Development may also be impaired due to exposure to damaging environmental factors over time, whereas longevity is largely affected by environment, genetics and lifestyle choices. The Delos program addresses indoor markers that affect aging, development and longevity through advanced lighting schemes that support healthy circadian rhythms, innovative sleep therapies, advanced air and water systems, as well as optimal nutrition, exercise and stress management strategies.

Cosmetic Health

The appearance, texture and condition of the skin, hair and nails are indicators of cosmetic wellness, as is physical tone and fitness of the body. Daily external environmental factors such as air, water and light, to which skin hair and nails are subject, can exact a cumulative toll. Opportunities for daily exercise can also be hard to come by, or easily overlooked. Delos provides amenities that protect and preserve the health of the skin, hair and nails through the elimination of harmful chemicals from water and air in addition to vitamin C shower filters and humidity control as well as UV sanitizing and other surface sterilization measures that provide supplementary benefits. Healthy exercise and eating habits are also encouraged through Delos exercise and nutrition programs, the sum of which contributes to an overall enhanced aesthetic appearance and increased cosmetic health.
